Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Mathew 11:29-30
In our text today, we find Jesus inviting us to come take His yoke and learn of Him, with the assurance that his yoke is easy and his burden light. Unlike the pharisees who would put loads heavy to bear on the people without lifting a finger to help them. Jesus gives the assurance that his load is easy and bearable, and Jesus is meek and lowly in heat not mean and haughty.
This subject of the yoke of Christ has been largely misunderstood by some and misrepresented by many who teach that taking up the yoke of Christ is some hard unbearable exercise in discipleship that is predicated on self denial and funny lifestyles. But this is far from the truth. Some one once said that when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse becomes inevitable.
The yoke is primary an instrument of union; it’s major use is to join. Every other use comes second to this. To be yoked with Christ therefore is to be joined with Him, to be grafted into Him and vitally connected with Him in spirit. This invitation of Jesus to take his yoke is an invitation to the glorious possibilities of oneness with him. It is our being joined and becoming one with Him that the guarantee of rest for our souls flows from, and because we are one with Him the yoke becomes light and the burden becomes easy because to bear.
I Declare: Today I declare that I am yoked together with the indwelling Christ. Whatever is not heavy to Him cannot be heavy to me because His Spirit is living in me and bearing the burden He places on us. I am in absolute peace because I am yoked with Jesus.
Ignite Thought: Jesus bears the burden when you yoke together with Him.
