Take up your Shield

Spread the word!

In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; Eph 6:16 ES

Today, we are looking at the Shield of faith which is the fourth piece of armor discussed in Ephesians 6. For a Roman soldier, a shield was used as a form of protection. It was worn strapped to one’s arm and, at any time, it could be held up to deflect attacks. It could also be used as an offensive weapon to knock enemies over with force. Paul describes this shield as our faith.

Since shields provide protection, faith must be a way to protect ourselves when the enemy attacks. We’re so grateful that God has given us a defense system; however, just like with an actual shield, His shield is only effective when we raise it up. It won’t help us if it’s on the ground or by our side. Therefore, in all circumstances, we have to put our faith to work by activating out belief in Jesus and all that He has done for us.

Whenever the enemy attacks us with frustrating circumstances or thoughts that cause us to feel afraid, we should immediately lift up the shield of faith. The way we do that is by deciding that to trust God instead of trying to figure out our own way to solve the problem. It is important to realize that doubt, fear and anxiety are attacks from the enemy. But taking up the shield of faith will protect us and allow us to fight back against these attacks and come out triumphantly.

I Declare: Today I declare the Lord as my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. I am grateful for a strong faith to stand on when the enemy attacks. Help me today to stand firm in faith when the world tries to shoot arrows at my morals and beliefs.

Ignite Thought: Faith is not what you feel, faith is what you do (action).
