Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9).
Our text challenges us today not to be afraid. It sounds so easy, so attractive, many of us would give almost anything if we could get rid of our fears. But the words “Don’t be afraid” simply don’t seem to fit the reality of our everyday lives. There are so many things to be afraid of. There are so many unexpected storms that can sweep us off our feet.
What do you do when you are surrounded by all manner troubles, like Paul within you have troubles and without you have wars? God’s word to you is do not be afraid, Jeremiah 1:17 says “Don’t lose your nerve.” It is therefore clear that faith in God can reduce our fear to a manageable size. God tells Jeremiah he is not to allow fear to stop him from being obedient to his calling? We are asked to be courageous always and in all way
Child of God, courage is not the absence of fear or apprehension, courage is doing God’s will even when you are afraid. It is obeying God regardless of how we feel or the expected consequence. So many destinies are tied to how you respond to what is threatening you today; how you respond to the battle would either make them retreat or advance in the day of battle. May your courage today inspire someone to face and win their battles tomorrow.
I Declare: I am strong and courageous. I will not be fearful or discouraged, because the Lord my God is with me wherever I go. I lean on Him in times of uncertainty and He calms my storms.
Ignite Thought: Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened. Billy Graham.
