the gift of righteousness

Spread the word!

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17

Yesterday we saw how we have to have overflowing kindness or abundance of grace to reign in this life. today we are going to look at the complimentary component of reigning in life, which is the gift of righteousness. Righteousness” is a legal term. It means to have right standing before God. Righteousness is “that gracious gift of God to men whereby all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ are brought into right relationship with God.” In other words, your right standing before God is based upon Jesus’ right standing before God and it has to be received as a gift because it cannot be earned. Therefore it means that today, God sees those that are in Christ as He sees Jesus Christ.

There is one thing the devil fights against as powerfully as anything else, and that is any person who begins to realize what it is to be made righteous by faith. Satan will keep you, by any means that he can, under some measure of condemnation and guilt, and he’ll keep you feeling very religious about it, too. You would probably agree that the majority of Christians have never grasped this truth. In fact, I think you will find that much of what we preach or sing today are designed to leave us sin-conscious. In many cases, we almost feel that it’s presumptuous to consider ourselves as righteous, at best people love to be seen as sinful. This is a remarkable fact.

Many people would feel embarrassed or presumptuous to call themselves “righteous,” for they think that they have to earn righteousness. Scripture, however, emphasizes that, rather than being something we can merit, righteousness is a gift no one deserves. It is a free based on the finished work of Christ on Calvary, where Jesus took our sinfulness and made us God’s righteousness. 2 Cor 5:21. This righteousness is a gift. You either receive it as such (a gift) or you live without it. The choice is yours, but if we are going to reign in this life as ambassadors of God then we need God’s overflowing kindness married with the gift of righteousness.

I Declare: Today I declare that my days of guilt and condemnation are over, I walk in righteousness because I have been made right before God. God accepts me, I am justified through faith in Christ. I am destine to reign in life through my Lord Jesus Christ.

Ignite Thought: Grace is the free favour of God; righteousness is the condition which results from its reception.
