To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. Isaiah 61:3
Praise works like a magnifying glass. It causes what you’re focusing on to get bigger, to be ‘magnified’. David said, ‘Magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.’ (Psalm 34:3–4 NKJV) It’s a mistake to wait until you’ve no problems, fewer problems, or no problems before you praise the Lord. Praise is one of the great Scriptural keys to problem-solving because it gets your focus on God, the problem solver. Real praise shifts our attention from problems to God.
Jesus offers such a sweet exchange. He wants to take our ashes and give us a crown of beauty. He wants to take our mourning and replace it with the oil of gladness, he wants to take our spirit of despair and turn it into a garment of praise. You have to release all your heartache to him and in turn he blesses you with his joy! But you have to be deliberate on what you want by choosing what you set your mind on. Set your mind on God, when you begin to praise Him with a heavy heart, you experience a new sense of hope and joy. Through worship then, you are reminded that God is bigger than the situation you face; that He’s not only capable of changing your concerns but willing, wanting and waiting to.
Friends, fill your day with praise. Don’t just take movie breaks, coffee breaks or tea breaks; take ‘praise breaks.’ Begin to praise God for who He is (His attributes) and for what He does (His acts). Recall His goodness to you. Go ahead; take off the spirit of heaviness and put on the garment of praise. Child of God, it’s time to switch.
I Declare: Lord thank you for trading my ashes for beauty and replacing the garment of heaviness with your oil of gladness by your spirit. Today I walk in beauty in every place of ugliness. I give you praise because this season of darkness and ugliness is fading away! My
Ignite Thought: The ashes of ugliness will fall away, they don’t stay forever!
