There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. —John 1:6-8
We live in a broken world, a world characterized by disconnection from the Person and purpose of God. Scripture refers to this condition as living in darkness and speaks about people being blind and deaf to God’s presence and voice. Into this broken world came John, testifying to the light that was to come: Jesus, who came as a light shining into the darkness.
In all ages the Spirit of Christ has made God’s true children the light of the people of their generation. Joseph was a light bearer in Egypt. In his purity and benevolence and filial love he represented Christ in the midst of a nation of idolaters. While the Israelites were on their way from Egypt to the Promised Land, the true hearted among them were a light to the surrounding nations. Through them God was revealed to the world. From Daniel and his companions in Babylon, and from Mordecai in Persia, bright beams of light shone out amid the darkness of the kingly courts.
Now, Jesus sends us out to carry His light into the world. Who will catch a glimpse of the light of Jesus through you today? Shine on!
I Declare: Jesus, use my life and all I do as a witness to the light and life You bring. Today my works shall testify of your goodness and bring you glory!
Ignite Thought: Light bearers do not fear darkness, they shine in the midst of it!
