If we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Romans 8:17
Glory seems like a vague description, but it is the single word that best captures our future as children of God. Though we cannot fully grasp the fullness of this inheritance for us now as we are, because of this tabernacle of flesh, what is certain is that all of God’s children are heirs together with Christ of a glorious future.
That glorious future is depicted briefly in Revelation 21 as features of coming attraction. In our materialistic nature we tend to focus on the streets of gold and gates of pearl. But the image in Revelation 21 that should capture our imaginations is not precious jewels but the priceless relationship we are promised with God. “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.” The greatest treasure is that the distinction between heaven and earth will disappear; God and humanity will live together in heavenly perfection.
This sneak preview of heaven reveals that this relationship will finally be complete. The fact that God dwells with His children is the crown jewel of this new and glorious reality. Our relationship with Jesus qualified us to be partakers of this glorious divine nature. We are walking in that promised glory already and there is even more to come.
I Declare: Today I declare my gratitude to God for allowing me share fully in His glory. I am grateful for these glimpses of glory I see in the Word and in my daily walk with God. I live a life of glory and virtue.
Ignite Thought: God’s greatest delight has always been to dwell in and through man.
