Heir of All Things

Spread the word!

In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things. . . .

Hebrews 1:2

Hebrews begins by making some big statements in its first three verses. One of which is Christ is the “heir of all things.” Prophets were sent to speak to God’s people. They brought important news and teachings from God, but they were merely messengers. Now God has come and has spoken to his people directly through his Son, who is the “heir of all things.” This reference points back to Psalm 2:7-8, which says, “He said to me, ‘You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.’” In Jesus, God fulfills this amazing promise.

Jesus is the heir who receives all that the Father has. Peter says that this inheritance “can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). So what does this mean for us? As followers of Christ, we are adopted into God’s family as his children, and we are “co-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). As co-heirs with Christ, we are set to inherit all that Christ inherits—namely, salvation from sin and eternal life with him.

Once we see the superior revelation of Jesus Christ, we can’t go back. We can’t go back to the old religion, the old church, or the old way of worship. Why? We have come face to face with the greatest revelation God could make. If you don’t see that, your eyes are being blinded by Satan. The incredible salvation God offers us is right in front of you. All you have to do is believe that Jesus Christ came to earth and died for your sins, as the Scripture said He would. When He died on the cross, He made purification for sins for anyone who would believe. The moment you believe this truth, the veil will be lifted from your eyes, and the Holy Spirit will take up residence in your life. You will experience first hand the magnificent glory of God that is manifested in His Son, Jesus Christ.

I Declare: Lord, thank you for qualifying me to have a rich inheritance of eternal life with you. Help me to keep my eyes focused on you as you uphold all things by your power.

Ignite Thought: I am an heir. I have legal right to the inheritance in Christ Jesus.
