His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3
Peter was a close friend and follower of Jesus. He was an eyewitness of Jesus’ life and ministry. At the close of his ministry, he writes to Christian friends to remind them of some truths that they are likely to forget. And without fanfare, he launches into one of the most important truths that we need to know today: God gives us everything we need to grow. Peter makes it clear: the foundation for our growth is God’s power and grace. Yes God gives us everything we need for life and godliness.
We are not just looking at growing spiritually. We are talking about growing in every area of our lives, because God cares about every part of our life. God cares about your soul, and he also cares about your emotions, your relationships, your work life, your family, and your physical health. God cares about it all. God doesn’t just want part of your life. He wants all of it to prosper.
Note that this growth does not come about by just wishing and claiming, this growth comes about by putting deliberate efforts to know God and adding other virtues to this knowledge. Remember, we don’t grow on our own; we grow by relying on the resources that God had already made available to us. The result, according to Peter is this growth will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of God, and you will never fail, and “there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
I Declare: I declare that the Spirit of God is working so powerfully in me to know Jesus. I believe that every spiritual blessing that I need to grow in my relationship with Jesus is available to me. I am growing deeper in my love for the Lord with each passing day. I am becoming more and more like the Lord and walk ever so closely to Him.
Ignite Thought: You don’t grow by trying to grow. You grow by getting to know God more and more.
