Building With A Storm In Mind

Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

Jesus in our text today tells us the difference that can occur when we put God’s words to practice. The difference between one home left standing and another left fractured and falling into the sea is not most times the materials used, but the foundation they were built upon. Jesus uses this analogy to bring out his final point in Sermon on the Mount. It does not matter if you are talking about the foundation of a physical building or the foundation upon which you have built your life, the principle is the same.

The material upon which you lay your foundation will determine the strength of the structure that is built upon it. It does not matter the cost and quality of the building materials used, for a house built on sand is only as strong as that sand. It will collapse when put to the test. Here Jesus explains how building our life is like building a house. If we want a house that will last, it must have a solid foundation. And the only foundation for living is to listen to Jesus’ teaching and put it into practice.

Christians are not immune to pain and suffering. The storms of life, whether economic or relational come both to the righteous and the unrighteous, what makes the difference is the principles by which we build our lives. Jesus wants us to live by his Word and teaching so that we can withstand every storm of life1

I Declare: Today I declare that my life has assurance and eternal security because my life if built on the foundation of the word. As I do what the word says, my life produces what the word promised.

Ignite Thought: What differentiates the wise from the foolish is not the hearing but the doing of the word!
