Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:60, 62 (KJV)
As we journey through the Holy Scriptures, we see God shaping His children, asking them to follow Him either through symbols like the cloud, or through people or simply instructing them directly and requiring their commitment. From the old to the New Testament the standard requirement is the same.
In our anchor text today, we see Jesus saying to His disciples “Follow me.” Whoever Jesus meets and desires to use, the requirement was always the same “follow me”. Jesus call for commitment in following Him requires that we don’t look back, for no one who puts his hands to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom. We have to put in our all, to invest ourselves fully withholding nothing back. Following Jesus is a serious business and we should not allow anything come in between us.
My declaration and confession: I commit my time, my talents, and my resources to you. Everything that I have has been given to me by you, so I offer these gifts back to you for your glory. I pray that every good seed that I plant will yield a rich harvest of souls, righteousness, and blessings.
Ignite Thought: A life totally committed to God has nothing to fear, nothing to lose, nothing to regret.
