For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Hebrews 8:8, 13 (KJV)
The bible is crystal clear on the mission and mandate of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not come to renovate or refurbish; He came to do something entirely new, far beyond repairing or renovating the old. The writer of the book of Hebrews uses a series of strong words like “obsolete”, “old” and “disappear” to demonstrate this fact that His mission was drastic change, to make a complete change, to bring in something new and better.
Jesus did not equally come to be another Moses, Elijah, Solomon or any of the great guys that lived before Him. He had a clear and unique function; He came to initiate a new arrangement, a new and different order of things. He brought a better approach to life and our relationship with God, thereby setting aside the former code of conduct and requirements. He didn’t update the law but abolished them (Heb 7:18-19) He came to help us see that all the law required and represented was a shadow of the heavenly reality.
He came with a new covenant, in everything to do the will of God. He came to introduce a new kind of relationship with God, a relationship based on faith. Don’t get stuck trying to do things the old ways. Look to Jesus, and let Him make all things new for you today!
My declaration and confession: I decree and declare that I walk in a new and better covenant. Everything I need is covered in the policy, I walk in the consciousness of this reality.
Ignite Thought:The new covenant is better than the old covenant because it is enacted on better promises.
