Turn my eyes away from vanity [all those worldly, meaningless things that distract—let your priorities be mine], and restore me [with renewed energy] in your ways.
Psalm 119:37 (AMP)
Our focal scripture today admonishes us to turn our eyes away from the things that only have worldly significance, things that are only of evil value, things that focuses on the flesh with its desires and wants. Anything that distracts us from the eternal is worthless, meaningless, and temporal; and can short circuit our possibilities in God. Our priorities should be God’s priorities, things that glorify Him and edifies us and others.
Our eyes as a gateway must be guarded and constantly fixed on Jesus. Our minds and hearts should be set on Him, especially in these times in which we are living where the world offer us nothing but vanities and uncertainties. Everything is so temporal. The only sure thing is God. He is unchanging; He is our rock and the One who sustains us. He is fully trustworthy!
Remember, God’s priority is for the world to hear the gospel and come to know Him as Lord and Savior. We need to commit ourselves wholly to Jesus as we walk through the uncertainties of life, and as we do this, He restores us with ‘renewed energy’. He strengthens us to walk uprightly in His ways. He restores, refreshes and energizers us to stand in the midst of the current crises and the surrounding darkness, loss and despair. As our hope, He fills us with hope and empowers us to give the world around us hope. So, keep your eyes on Him, allow everything that does not have eternal value fade away.
My declaration and confession: “Today I declare that both my eyes and my mind are set on Christ. His priorities are my priorities.”.
